Lyncourt Street Shutdown Over Uranium 238

Lyncourt, N.Y. - Police and firefighters shut down a portion of Schaffer Avenue in Lyncourt for several hours last night as they dealt with a suspicious package believed to contain uranium 238.

A woman called 911 saying the Chinese foreign exchange student she was hosting received a package with a label saying it contained 8.96 grams of uranium 238. First responders along with Hazmat teams showed up.

The package did contain uranium and came from Florida. Authorities are saying, someone sent the package to the student hoping she would mail it to China.

It was later determined that it was not weapons grade and there was no danger to the public.

Authorities and the Postal service are still investigating.
