Cuomo Takes Aim At Plastic Bags

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo will push in the new legislative session to ban single-use plastic bags and expand the bottle bill to include more types of non-alcoholic drink containers.

Cuomo says the proposals would promote recycling, reduce litter, and create a cleaner New York.

The plastic bag ban would allow reusable bags. Under the bottle bill expansion, containers for sports drinks, energy drinks, fruit juices, and others would become eligible for five-cent redemption. He also wants to study how to eventually add wine and liquor bottles.
