Trooper Involved in Two Car Crash On 81 In Watertown

Watertown , N.Y. -  State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash, involving a Trooper.  The accident occurred on Interstate 81 north near exit 44 in the town of Watertown. 

This morning around 11:30 Trooper Nicholas Morgia was operating a marked state police vehicle, and was stopped on the east shoulder of the northbound lane. 

Trooper Morgia had just finished a traffic stop and was entering the northbound lane with the emergency lights activated, in an attempt to cross over 81 and make a  U-Turn. 

At that time A 2015 Hyundai, operated by18-year-old Madison L. Gordinier, from Ellisburg, NY traveling north on 81 in the left lane, struck the rear left door and front left door of the Trooper's vehicle. 

Ms. Gordinier was transported to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Trooper Morgia was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
