New York - Senator Schumer says Christmas trees being sold on street corners downstate could be spreading a pesky insect that could devastate upstate crops!
The pesky lanternfly is causing huge problems in Pennsylvania and Maryland where they have been feasting on plants and crops, including apples, peaches, oaks and pines.
Schumer says many of the Christmas trees sold downstate come from Pennsylvania. The bugs have already been spotted on Long Islands.
Schumer wants the Agriculture Department to give New York money to fight off the spotted lanternfly before they overwhelm farms and forests.
