Albany, N.Y. - The controversy around those pay raises for the State legislature is now going to court. The Government Justice Center filed a lawsuit Friday.
Cameron McDonald Executive Director of the Government Justice Center says that committee not only has unconstitutionally given the raises but also placed restrictions on how much money lawmakers can make from outside jobs.
The conservative legal advocacy group claims pay raises must be voted on by the state Senate and Assembly.
The recommendations go into effect unless lawmakers convene a special session before January 1.
Some lawmakers have complained about the outside income provision.
