Bomb Threats Reported At SU And Others In CNY

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse University, along with more than a dozen other local institutions, had to deal with a phony bomb threat Thursday.

SU alerted students, staff, and the community, in an alert yesterday. In CNY the threats were centered in Onondaga County. There was one threat made in Madison County as well as two in Utica.

The threats were apart of hundreds of threats reported at news outlets, government buildings, banks, libraries, schools and other businesses across the U.S. The threat stemmed from a mass email where an unknown writer demanded bitcoin in exchange for safety.

Law enforcement officials say that it was a hoax. The FBI is investigating.
