Syracuse, N.Y. - 11 schools statewide may be shutting down, including a trio in Syracuse, after failing to show enough improvement during the past year.
Danforth Middle School, Dr. King Elementary School, and the Westside Academy at Blodgett could also be taken over by an outside receiver.
Last year, 60 schools were shown to be struggling. State Education officials now say that 49 of them have demonstrated improvement.
Syracuse school district officials can either close the three schools or take the next 60 days to choose an independent receiver to take over operations and develop an improvement plan.
