Some "I Love New York" Thruway Signs Will Come Down

Albany, N.Y. - We're learning more about a deal the State made with the Feds to save some of the blue "I Love New York" Signs on the Thruway.

DOT Officials say that the agreement will allow the signs that are near historic or cultural attractions throughout the state to remain. It is not yet clear exactly how many signs will be relocated, and how many will remain in place.

Last week, the DOT and Thruway reached an agreement with the Federal Highway Administration to restore $14 million in federal highway funds that were going to be withheld for illegally putting up the signs five years ago.

It cost the State $16 million to create and install the more than 500 signs along the Thruway.
