'Raise The Age' Legislation Begins In Onondaga County

Syracuse, N.Y. - Starting today, Raise the Age legislation takes effect in Onondaga County.

That means 16 and 17-year-olds charged with crimes will be sent to juvenile detention centers instead of being in jails with adults.  Some teens may also get the chance to have their criminal records sealed after ten years.

New York State has set aside more than $250 million to help counties deal with this transition.
