Upstate Medical University President Stepping Down

Syracuse, N.Y. - The president of Upstate Medical University says she's stepping down from her position.

Doctor Danielle Laraque-Arena is planning to leave her job on December 22nd at the end of the Fall Semester. She will, however, continue to work for SUNY.

In a letter, Doctor Laraque-Arena said she was proud of everything that's been accomplished during her more than two years as president. Her leadership at Upstate has come fire due to recent controversies. County DA William Fitzpatrick's office and the state Inspector General's office are jointly investigating Upstate.

Joanie Mahoney, who's leaving the County Executive's Office to become COO at SUNY  ESF, will also serve in an advisory role at Upstate during the transition.

An interim leader will be appointed before she steps down.
