Syracuse, N.Y. - Dr. David Smith, the former president of Upstate Medical University, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors today in Syracuse City Court.
Smith who resigned in 2013, was accused of increasing his pay without State University of New York permission.
Smith pleaded guilty to three counts of official misconduct, all misdemeanors. As part of his plea he will be required to pay over $247 thousand dollars in restitution and $3,000 in fines. He paid $75,000 today, the rest to be paid during three years on probation. He must pay the full amount in three years.
