Syracuse, N.Y. - Following the counting of absentee ballots today, the Democrats have an official designee in the race for the state Senate's 53rd District.
Rachel May has won defeating Sen Dave Valesky. Valesky has stated since last week’s primary, countless individuals have urged him to continue to campaign as an independent.
Valesky says "out of respect for them, I will take some time to consider all options going forward. I congratulate Rachel May on her win in the Democratic primary. Ms. May and her supporters deserve credit for their hard work and tireless advocacy on behalf of progressive causes."
Valesky will still be on the ballot on the Independence Party and Women’s Equality Party lines.
