Syracuse, N.Y. - Onondaga County Comptroller Bob Antonacci is taking issue with County Executive Joanie Mahoney "cherry-picking" sales tax data.
Mahoney earlier this week touted that Onondaga County's Sales Tax Revenue was up 8% so far this year, a significant improvement over recent years and a sign of economic progress.
"Sales tax is not as rosy as she claims it is," says Antonacci. "Over the last five years Onondaga County has spent over $25 million in sales tax which it never received."
More than half of that deficit came in 2016 when Onondaga County fell nearly 5% short of its sales tax projection. Antonacci says that in 2017 the county fell 2% short of it's goal.
