"Spike" Makes A Return To Syracuse

Spike is back in Syracuse. Sgt. Rick Helterline of the Syracuse Police says a new shipment has arrived causing a strain on ambulance crews and hospitals.

Spike is synthetic marijuana made up of a variety of herbs and spices sprayed with chemicals with similarities to THC, the mind-altering ingredient found in marijuana.

Crouse Hospital has seen 12 cases since Tuesday. Ambulance crews have seen a big increase in cases since the weekend.

Sgt Helterline says it effects different people different ways, some are relaxed and others are aggressive and violent

Helterline says it generally comes a tin foil pack usually with bright colors. It is illegal and if you see someone who might be using it or you know where its being sold, you should call the police.

In 2015 the New York Times Magazine declared Syracuse the SPIKE NATION.
