On Friday, July 6, 2018, at approximately 6:34pm, Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 200 block of Burns Ave, in regards to an animal cruelty investigation. E911 dispatchers informed responding units that a naked male was attempting to kill a dog.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male restraining the suspect who was identified as Tyler Simon, 25, of Syracuse. Simon was taken into custody.
Witnesses reported Simon was strangling a dog and pulling its legs apart. They also told police Simon was under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the incident.
Police located the injured dog behind the residence. The dog was unable to walk and had an obvious leg injury. The dog was transported to the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY for treatment. It was determined that the dog sustained a fractured right front leg, bruising to its eyes and torn toe nails.
Simon was arrested and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. He was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending his arraignment.
