Five Face Charges In Fatal Hit N Run

Five people have been charged in relation to the death of a 27 year old man who was killed while riding his bike Monday morning. 

Vontelle M. Sparks, of Camillus, was alone in his car when he swerved out of the driving lane and struck a bicyclist, 27 year old Lawrence Maturo, of Clay. Maturo was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Police spent most of yesterday looking for the vehicle and driver. 

Today Sparks turned himself him and police have arrested four other people who helped him after the crash.

Sparks received help from his sister, girlfriend and his girlfriend's parents. All four have been charged. 

Ashley Cuozzo, Sparks' girlfriend, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, and fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor. Cuozzo, 30, lives in Jamesville with her parents. 

Cuozzo's parents, Sylvester and Michelle Livingston, were also charged. Sylvester Livingston, 54, was charged with falsely reporting an incident. Michelle Livingston was charged with tampering with physical evidence and fifth-degree conspiracy.

Lakeya Sparks, 39, sister of the accused,  of Syracuse, was also charged with tampering with physical evidence and fifth-degree conspiracy

Sparks' damaged vehicle was found abandoned in a field off of Carbon Street in Syracuse. Those arrested are accused of moving the vehicle. .

Vontelle Sparks faces the following charges, according to state police:

  • Leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a felony
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor
  • Tampering with physical evidence, a felony
  • Fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor
  • Moving from lane unsafely, a traffic violation

He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he is awaiting arraignment.
