Take a deep breath. Tyus Battle, the most productive offensive weapon for the SU Men's Basketball team last season has decided to stay with the Orange for another season.
SU fans are not the only ones that are pleased.
Battle went about as far as you can go through the draft process without actually declaring for the NBA draft. He went to the combine, he worked out with pro teams but he never signed with an agent. The deadline to finally declare for the draft was today and Battle did not make the declaration.
The allure of declaring for the draft, other than the dreams of playing pro ball, only exists if you are drafted in the first round. For those that are drafted in the first round there is a guarantee of a multimillion-dollar rookie contract. If you fall to the second round there is no payday.
NBA experts said that this year's draft class is particularly loaded with talent. Battle should have a better chance of securing a first-round rookie contract next year, when there is expected to be less talent.
