The last legal hurdle has been cleared for Juanita Perez Williams to force a Democratic primary election and the chance to challenge John Katko for his congressional seat.
Local Democrat Diane Dwire, who supports Dana Balter as the party's nominee for Congress, filed suit following the Election Board's ruling that Perez-Williams had the required 12 hundred 50 petition signatures to demand a primary election. Dwire claimed 160 of those signatures were improper. But Dwire cancelled a planned court appearance Wednesday. It sets the stage for Perez-Williams and Balter to face off June 26 to win the Democratic nomination.
