Albany, N.Y. - State officials are taking legal action against Spectrum Media Company.
The New York State Service Commission announced that Spectrum failed to meet obligations that were agreed upon to approve their merger with Time Warner Cable. State officials say Spectrum agreed to expand broadband service in rural areas that struggle with Internet connection, but instead provided service to over 12,000 New York City areas that already had Internet.
A spokesperson from Governor Andrew Cuomo's office says he believes Spectrum should be held accountable for not fulfilling their part of the deal and that they're now at risk of losing their license.
