Man Arrested For Attempted Arson

Syracuse Police responded to 528 Oak Street Wednesday morning in regards to a fire investigation.

When police arrived they met with the property manager who reported an unknown person had intentionally tried to set a fire to the building which houses several occupants. 

The suspect had placed burning papers through the mailbox slot of the building.  The fire caused damage to the carpet below the mailbox slot.  No one was injured as a result of the fire.

 Officers investigated and were able to locate video footage of the incident. 

Later that  morning, the suspect returned to the scene and was taken into custody. 

The suspect was identified as As-Salaam Cutts, 41, of 1312 Butternut Street, Syracuse, NY.  

Cutts was arrested and charged with Attempted Arson in the Second Degree and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
