Mexico, N.Y. - A teenager is in trouble with the law for lying about a social media threat against their school.
Troopers say that a 12-year-old told her mother that she had seen a threat on Social Media against the Mexico Middle School that was supposed to happen today. The mother called police and as State Police investigated, they learned that a 14-year-old boy had made the fake threat.
Troopers charged the boy with falsely reporting an incident.
Police will be present at the school today, as a precaution.
Police in CNY have dealt with a rash of school threats in the aftermath of the Parkland Florida School Massacre.
