Buffalo, N.Y. - The Tops supermarket chain may be close to seeking bankruptcy protection from its creditors.
Bloomberg is reporting a filing could come in a matter of days.
Tops has about 170 stores in four states, with more than a dozen in Central New York. The union representing about 12,000 Tops workers says they are monitoring the company's finances and are meeting with their own financial advisers and attorneys.
The Buffalo-area based chain began operating in 1962.
