Albany, N.Y. - The state Assembly has approved legislation benefiting the so-called Dreamers, the immigrants brought illegally to the U.S. as children.
The bill would allow those living in the state to get free tuition at SUNY under the Excelsior Scholarship program created for other New York students last year. Dreamers would be eligible for the other state tuition breaks, including the New York Tuition Assistance Program.
Similar legislation died last year in the state Senate.
