Gov. Cuomo Takes Action To Ensure LGBTQ Rights

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo is taking Executive action in an effort to ensure civil right protections. The executive order prohibits state agencies and state authorities from doing business with firms that tolerate or promote discrimination based on sex, gender identity and national origin.

Meantime, the Governor is also proposing legislation to prevent the use of a so-called "gay panic defense" in court for those who attack someone after learning of the victim's gender or sexual orientation.

Also over the weekend, the Governor announced that any school that refuses to protect transgender students will not receive state funding.
