Cuomo Steps In To Keep Tourists Happy

Million Rose Pedals Dropped Over Statue Of Liberty Commemorating 70th Anniversary Of D-Day

Albany, N.Y. -The Statue of Liberty is reopening today.

As a result of the government shutdown, federal tourism sites including the Statue of Liberty began closing this weekend.  The iconic tourist site will reopen today, but not because any resolution has been made in Washington.  Governor Cuomo announced yesterday that New York will pick up the tab.

He said the state will pay about $65,000 a day to keep both the monument and Ellis Island open.
