Oswego, N.Y. - Those with large property tax bills for their Oswego County home can now take advantage of a last minute end-around the new Federal GOP Tax Law.
County officials say that Oswego County taxpayers can prepay their 2018 county and town property taxes beginning today. Governor Cuomo issued an emergency executive order allowing the taxes to be prepaid. It was a move largely aimed at helping downstate where property taxes are significantly higher.
The new federal tax law limits federal deduction for combined state and local income and property tax payments to $10,000. It also doubles the standard deduction. Most Central New Yorkers who itemize are expected to to take the standard deduction in their 2018 taxes and beyond.
