Ithaca Police Learn of Pipe Bomb in Residence for 6 Weeks

Ithaca police helped to safely dispose of what may have been a pipe bomb - about six weeks late.

Officers were sent to West State Street on Tuesday to check on a complaint of a suspicious package.  The caller told police he moved into his apartment six weeks earlier and found what he thought was a pipe bomb in the closet.  Officers located the suspicious device and turned it over to the bomb squad from the Endicott Police Department.  The suspicious device was taken to a secure location, where it was interrupted and rendered safe.   As of now, no charges have been filed.
