Onondaga County is dealing with a case of tuberculosis reported from someone at Fowler High School.
Health commissioner Dr. Indu Gupta says the individual is affiliated with the Public Service Leadership Academy at Fowler. Gupta says it remains a public health concern despite how rare it is in present day. Anyone can get TB after exposure to it, and it is curable with a specific treatment. TB spreads when an infected person coughs, speaks, laughs, sings, or sneezes into the air, and the disease can take months to develop after infection. Gupta advises anyone who may have been exposed should be tested for any evidence of TB.
