Madison County Inmate's Escape Attempt Short-Lived

Thanks to the quick work of Madison County corrections officers, an escape attempt early Sunday was nothing more than an attempt.

The Sheriff's department reports that Michael Hernandez tried to exit his cell through the ceiling in an effort to escape.  Corrections officers found Hernandez before he even left his cell, as his legs were dangling from the ceiling overhead.  Hernandez was arrested last week for driving while under the influence of drugs.  He posted $300 bail using a credit card, but was arrested again because the card Hernandez used was stolen.  He made his escape attempt the next day.  Acting sheriff John Ball says the public was never in danger, and he commended the corrections officers for their decisive actions.
