Former Cop Captured After Escaping Police Custody

A former police officer from Tompkins County who turned fugitive after he escaped police custody has been caught.

State police say that they developed a lead that Andrew Jacobsen was at a residence in Tioga County, and was arrested around 7pm Wednesday.  Jacobsen was a former officer for the Trumansburg Police Department until he was terminated four years ago.  He had been arrested by fellow officers earlier this week on a grand larceny charge, and escaped when an officer uncuffed Jacobsen in order to smoke a cigarette. Schools in Trumansburg were on lockdown during the search out of an abundance of caution, according to school district officials.
