Syracuse, N.Y. - The chairman of the Onondaga County Conservative Party is stepping down.
John Mulhall resigned after what is being called a "rogue" operation to defeat a candidate endorsed by the party. He reportedly wrote a letter urging party members to not vote for their designated candidate in a legislature primary. He instead encouraged voters to write-in a challenger.
Party officials say members of the committee were considering filing party disloyalty charges against him, and would have voted him out if he hadn't resigned.
