County Legislature Moves To Ban Outside Income

Syracuse, N.Y. - The County Legislature is moving forward on legislation to ban outside income for the Sheriff, County Executive, and Comptroller, and Clerk.

County Executive Joanie Mahoney says the law is meant to clarify questions regarding the County Charter and that she will pass the bill. The bill is a response to County Comptroller Bob Antonacci, who is the only elected official with outside income.

Antonacci says Mahoney strong armed some legislators to move the legislation forward -- although the bill passed the legislature 15 to 2. The Comptroller has been asserting that his side-work of referring basketball and 'book keeping' does not conflict with his duties as Comptroller.

The District Attorney, as an officer of the State Constitution, is already banned from having outside income.
