Albany-Area Cat Killer Sentenced To Prison

An Albany-area man has been sentenced to two years in prison after police say he cut the head of his cat.

45 year old John Gehrlein of Albany was convicted by a jury of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and will now spend two years behind bars. In December of the last year, police were called to his home after a report of a dead cat. Police found the cat in his backyard

. The cat's throat had been slashed and it's head had been nearly severed from it's body, only being held on by the cat's spinal cord. Gehrlein told police that he took the cat in as a stray, but they were having a troubled relationship.
