Scammers are now targeting Central New Yorkers and their pets.
The Better Business Bureau says pet owners locally are being targeted with a new scam where they claim to be a person who's found their missing pet. They won't offer a picture of the animal on-line, but instead ask for money to return to the dog or cat.
The bureau says is most cases, your pet is still lost and they're just trying to steal money. Some pet owners are even posting their phone numbers on social media in hopes of finding their pet and that's when scammer latch on.
