TSA officials at Hancock Airport in Syracuse discovered a gun in a carry-on bag.
The woman from Utica was found carrying a .22 caliber handgun when she attempted to go through security and she was stopped at that checkpoint. Airport law enforcement officers were summoned to the scene where they confiscated the firearm. Travelers who show up at security with a weapon cause the checkpoint land to come to a halt until police arrive to handle the situation.
Weapons are not permitted in carry-on bags. Passengers who are found with a weapon could face possible criminal charges and civil penalties of up to $12,000.
