Harsher Penalties Possible In NY For Harming Police Dogs

A Southern Tier State Senator has proposed a law  that would bring harsher penalties to anyone involved in harming police dogs.

Republican Senator Catharine Young of Olean says he bill would create a new felony offense for intentionally causing serious physical injury to a police dog or a police work horse.

The bill would increase the penalty to make the offense a Class "D" felony. The bill is being named Mitchell's Law for a Jamestown Police Department German Shepard that suffered life-threatening injuries while apprehending  a suspect in a local murder case last fall.
