National Grid Asks For Significant Rate Hike

National Grid has a plan on the table to hike your electric and gas rates again.National Grid wants to hike your electric bill by 11 dollars a month and gas customers would see a 10 dollar increase.

The utility claims they need the rate hike to invest more than 2 billion dollars in it's electric and gas networks and they plan to hire 280 new employees in their upstate service area. The rate hike would have to be approved by the Public Service Commission and would take effect next April.

This comes as a record number of customers are having trouble paying their bills. The utility shut off power to more than 66 thousand customers in the last two years.
