Suspended Syracuse Firefighter Sent To Jail

A suspended Syracuse firefighter is now behind bars after his arraignment this morning on evidence tampering charges.

Edward Ackerman is accused of tampering with evidence after a deadly hit and run accident last month on North Salina Street. Both the defense and the prosecution requested that Ackerman be released on his own recognizance, but Judge Ross Andrews refused after Ackerman pleaded not guilty. He's now being held on 10 thousand dollars bail.

This all stems from a hit and run accident in March involving former Liverpool Police officer Peter Rauch. Investigators say Rauch struck and killed 18 year old Seth Collier and fled the scene. Ackerman apparently witnessed the accident and didn't stop to offer the victim help and investigators say he was involved with evidence tampering in the case that night.
