Madison County Considers Ban On Plastic Bags

The Board of Supervisors In Madison County is considering a proposal to ban the use of plastic bags across the county. Supporters say those bags are clogging local landfills and take at least one thousand year to break down.

County crews are out on the road finding the plastic bags stuck in fences and trees. Some members of the Board of Supervisors wants everyone to buy reusable bags when they go to a grocery store or other retail outlets.

If the county implements the ban, they would be the first Upstate county to do so. The proposal won't be voted on though before there's a public hearing, which is scheduled for May 9th and that will begin a sixty day period of public comment.
