Thruway Crackdown Nets 15,000 Tickets

State Police have released the final numbers after a four day distracted driving crackdown on the Thruway earlier this month.

When all was said and done, more than 15,000 tickets were written and two thousand of those were for distracted driving, which includes cell phone use and texting while driving. More than four thousand drivers were tickets for speeding and nearly 600 tickets were written for seat belt violations.

During that crackdown more than 200 people were arrested for drunk driving on the Thruway at all hours of the day and night. The crackdown was conducted between April 6th and the 10th.
