Madison County Sheriffs Deputies are investigating a horrific case of animal abuse. They were called to a farm in Stockbridge where they found at least 68 cows and calves that had starved to death.
Several horses on the farm were also in extreme distress and conditions in the barn were called deplorable. The horses were seized after a warrant was issued and are being taken to a local animal sanctuary.
Police say conditions in the farmhouse next door were also described as deplorable and there was a young child living there.
32 year old Caleb Cottrell has been charged with eight counts of Torturing Animals. His wife Tiffany was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child for the conditions inside their home.
