Syracuse Police Make Arrest In Taxi Cab Robbery

On Saturday, March 11, 2017, at approximately 9:52 AM, Syracuse Police responded to the 1400 block of West Colvin Street, in regards to a robbery investigation.  The victim, who is employed as a taxi cab driver, reported to police that someone forcibly stole his taxi.  The victim explained that the male suspect, later identified as Rendell Broome, 49, of 1407 W. Colvin Street, was in the company of a female and three children.  The victim told police that Broome became irate with the driver when he informed Broome he would need to call for a van, because his taxi cab was not large enough to accommodate the number of people in his party and their belongings.  At this time, Broome became angry and forcibly took the car keys from the victim.  Broome then loaded the taxi with his belongings and drove away with Broome’s family in the vehicle.  Syracuse Police Officer Charles Fassinger located the stolen taxi cab a short time later in the 600 block of West Onondaga Street.  Broome was taken into custody without incident.  Broome was arrested and charged with Robbery in the Third Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Broome was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending his arrangement.
