State Assembly looks to ease punishment on pot users

Albany, N.Y. - The Assembly is advancing legislation to seal criminal records of New Yorkers arrested for having marijuana in public.

Last week the Assembly overwhelmingly passed the bill which affects low level drug offenders.  A Buffalo lawmaker sponsored the legislation along with the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Caucus claiming policies in place are inherently racist.

The bill now goes to the Senate for action.
