A Deadly Season For Snowmobilers In Upstate NY

It's been a deadly season for snowmobilers in New York State and it's only February. Seven snowmobilers have now died in Upstate New York this season and another three are missing after their sleds crashed through thin ice on upstate lakes.

Police say the ice on the water looks deceptive because it's covered with a blanket of snow, commonly referred to as the "devil's blanket." Experts say it hasn't been cold enough this winter to develop thick ice for riding and those who have died this season have been experienced snowmobilers. Police are still looking for two snowmobilers who feel through the ice on Conesus Lake in Livingston County.
