Onondaga County has taken a cue from Fayetteville and will hire federal sharpshooters to reduce the deer population in the town of Onondaga. Legislature chairman Ryan McMahon says up to now, the DEC has issued individuals in the Winkworth neighborhood nuisance permits for the deer. McMahon says the deer overpopulation is a public health concern due to Lyme Disease as well as the damage caused by the deer to homeowners' property.
