Charges Filed after Truck Slams into Centro Bus

Syracuse, N.Y.  - Syracuse Police are bringing charges against the 82-year-old driver of a pickup truck who slammed into a Centro bus, sending eight people to the Hospital.

Neil Brownell,of West Monroe, was ticketed for Failure to Reduce Speed on a curve and Failure to Keep Right on a Highway.

The crash happened the afternoon of Jan. 19.  The Centro bus was stopped at the intersection of Park St. and the I-81 exit ramp when Brownell broadsided the bus.

Centro released interior surveillance video of the moment when a pickup truck smashed through the middle of a Syracuse bus last week.

The video surveillance camera mounted at the front of the bus shows a passenger facing the oncoming truck react in horror, causing a man sitting across from her to glance away from his cellphone and look over his shoulder.

Syracuse Police identified the man as 60-year-old Herbert Barry. He attempted to move but was knocked across the aisle by the impact. Police say Barry broke his leg and hurt his hand. Police say he was the most seriously hurt. The other passengers and the couple in the truck suffered only minor injuries.

Brownell was uninjured in the crash.
