State of Emergency, Curfew, Remain Following Arrests Connected To Protests

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner says that less than 10 people have been arrested following last night's violent protests in Syracuse.

Buckner has not shared what charges the agitators face. He says that he is unaware of any serious injuries.

The protest began Saturday afternoon in Syracuse over the death of George Floyd. He died Memorial Day while in police custody in Minneapolis. The protest turned into a march and grew to more than 400 people as it wound it's way into Westvale and Solvay for a time. Several dozen protesters eventually broke off and returned to downtown Syracuse where they began smashing the windows at the Onondaga County Justice Center, Criminal Courthouse, and Syracuse Public Safety Building. Those agitators also looted several businesses through downtown and the northside.
