NY DOT Officials Host Open House For Proposed Parkway Changes

Liverpool, N.Y. - The second of six meetings about the Onondaga Lake Parkway is this afternoon:

State DOT officials will be at the Liverpool Public Library between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Although headlines often go to tractor trailers slamming into the rail bridge, DOT Officials are also concerned with the number of head on collisions on the parkway. State Data shows the Onondaga Lake Parkway sees more than 20,000 vehicles a day and crashes on the parkway are 10-times more likely to be deadly.

Officials are proposing reducing the parkway to one lane each way for a significant portion, installing a raised median, and a permanent speed limit reduction.

There is also a proposal to bring new technologies to warn vehicles that are to high to fit under the rail-bridge.
