Gov. Cuomo Says License Plate Change Is Not A Cash Grab

Wilson, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo says the decision to change the state's license plate is rooted in cashless tolling.

Governor Cuomo denied that switching plates is a cash grab. He is insisting that the state will face a tolling-deficit if they can't bill license plates with E-Z Pass technology.

The technology to read the plate needs to have dark lettering on a white background. What's funny is the old plate design on meets that.

What isn't funny is that it will cost drivers an extra $25 on top of what it already costs to re-register their vehicles to get the new plate.

Gov. Cuomo is coming up with a cute way to pick your pockets.

People can vote on what the next plate's design will be, with four choices including the Statue of Liberty, and one featuring the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge over the Hudson River.

Voting on the next plate's design runs through September 2nd, and the new plates will debut in April.
