State DOT Will Host Last Neighborhood Meeting In Salina

Salina, N.Y. - The Town of Salina will get their meeting afterall.

The meeting Thursday night at CNS High School was supposed to be the last one held by the State DOT before a formal public hearing about the future of I-81. But officials say they will hold one more meeting to hear from neighbors who have the most to loose from the State's recommendation of a "Community Grid" to replace the aged viaduct.

Final Pair Of DOT's Neighborhood Meetings About I-81 Begin Tonight

The second to last neighborhood meeting to discuss the future of I-81 is tonight and the town that has the most to lose will not be getting a visit from the DOT's roadshow.

Town officials say they receive significant revenues from room occupancy and other taxes from the hotels and businesses that are built along the towns three interstate exits. They say moving the highway would devastate the hotel business in their town leading to job cuts and tax increases.

The particulars of the meeting are still up in the air.
